BMW has introduced that development has begun on an enlargement of its manufacturing unit in San Luis Potosí, central Mexico.
The 80,000 sq m extension will make high-voltage batteries for the corporate’s Neue Klasse line, which BMW says may have quicker charging speeds and prolong the automobiles’ ranges by 30%.
Milan Nedeljković, head of manufacturing the German car-maker, mentioned in a press assertion that the plant would change into a part of BMW’s world manufacturing community for EVs.
He mentioned: “For our new sixth-generation e-drive alone, we’re constructing 5 places on three continents. Finding battery factories near car manufacturing makes manufacturing extra resilient.”
In 2018, BMW introduced it will construct an meeting plant in Hungary, which will even manufacture Neue Klasse automobiles when it opens in 2025.
The plant in San Luis Potosí started manufacturing in 2019, with staff engaged on petrol automobiles.
