We exist to give working engineers a single, citation-grade reference — one that survives the test of being read against a real Primavera P6 schedule, a real cost report, or a real delay claim on a Monday morning.
Project management and project controls are taught in fragments — a textbook here, a vendor course there, a borrowed template from a colleague. How we work
Every entry on this site is written or reviewed by practising engineers with decades of capital-project experience. Content is sourced from real projects (anonymised where required) and cross-checked against industry standards — PMI's PMBOK, PRINCE2, AACE recommended practices, ISO 21500, ANSI/EIA-748 for earned value, and DCMA scheduling guidance. We do not publish generic, machine-generated filler. The encyclopedia is updated on a rolling cadence; the date stamp on each entry reflects the last substantive review against field practice.

The platform is led by Dr. Hassan Eliwa, PhD, a senior planning and project controls engineer with 20+ years of international experience across construction, infrastructure, power generation and substations. He holds a PhD from Massey University (New Zealand) on ICT capability development in construction organisations, with research interests in schedule risk, forensic delay analysis, EVM forecasting and digital transformation. He is the Founder of PMMilestone.org and PMMilestone.com, architect of the Elite Project Controls System, and the author of practitioner-focused books in project controls and Primavera P6 scheduling. Editorial principles
We follow Google's Helpful Content guidelines and write for humans first. Every page that recommends a method, formula or threshold names the standard it is anchored to (PMBOK, PRINCE2, AACE, ISO 21500, ANSI/EIA-748, DCMA) and flags where the standards diverge. Where our experience disagrees with the textbook — for instance on the well-known weakness of classic SPI past 70% physical progress — we say so, and we recommend the field-grounded alternative (in that case, Earned Schedule SPI(t)). What makes this encyclopedia different
Most project management references fall into one of two traps: textbook abstraction (which collapses on a real project) or vendor-specific how-to (which only works inside one tool). PMMilestone.com is built around a third, harder posture — field-grounded, vendor-neutral, citation-grade. Every entry is written so a planning engineer can quote it to a project director without embarrassment, and every claim is traceable to a recognised standard or a published source.
The encyclopedia also takes a deliberate stand on integration. Project controls is not three separate disciplines (schedule, cost, risk) running in parallel; it is one integrated function whose value is the consistency between them. That is why entries on Earned Value Management, CPM, DCMA 14-point assessment and Variance Analysis cross-link rather than stand alone.
